Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Programmes 2020

Its that time of year again folks, time for those wanting to complete a DofE programme in 2020 to decide how and when they are going to do their expedition and importantly with whom. Here at Wye Canoes / Wye Adventures we love water sports so you can imagine that our favoured choice of transport is the canoe although watch this space as SUP expeditions will be available in 2021.

We specialise in the rivers Wye and Severn and they work brilliantly for our expeditions, we train all our participants here in Symonds Yat where we cover not only paddling and rescue skills but navigation, first aid and camp craft. After a couple of days training it’s time to hit the road and head up to North Wales to the mighty river Severn to begin the all important practice expedition, this is where its time to put the skills and knowledge they have learned into practice but of course our highly experienced professional guides and instructors are on hand to help and strengthen any weak areas and provide support right the way through the process. Our objective is that by the end of the first training and practice phase is to ensure that the participants are more than able to go away and on their own and plan, execute and complete their qualifying expedition in complete confidence on the river Wye later in the year.

DofE

We provide pretty much everything the participants need including tents and paddling equipment, and as this is water based there is no need for back packs and hiking boots, we supply water tight barrels for their belongings and a couple of pairs of old trainers, some warm clothing including things like hoodies and a good set of water proofs is all that’s needed. The weather in Britain can be very changeable so having that dry set of clothes to get into after a wet day on the water is all important.

We take our DofE Awards very seriously and thoroughly enjoy seeing the development and success of the participants throughout the programme it’s also a great way to meet new friends and an awesome place to do your DofE.

If you have 6 or more people in your group you can choose your expedition dates, however if you don’t that’s fine you can join our open programme that runs the first phase at Easter and the qualifying expedition in August.
