As Southern Britain and Wales are battered by strong winds and flooding we didn’t seem to fair too bad here at Wye Canoes in the Wye Valley. River levels at Ross are over 2 metres higher than normal this afternoon at 2.5 metres and will probably rise higher over the next few hours, but it looks like we missed the worst of the predicted weather. The strongest wind recorded was on the Isle of Wight at 99 miles an hour, not quite up to the great storm of October 1987 where speeds reached speeds of up to an incredible 115 mph. So far unfortunately four people have died, 600,000 homes have lost power, and there have been numerous rail and flight cancellations, lets hope there isn’t too much more too come before things calm down.
