River Wye Canoe Hire & Wye Valley Canoe Trips

Wye Canoes is based in beautiful Symonds Yat West, so we are in the perfect location to take advantage of this amazing river and area.

Organising your River Wye Canoe Trip could not be easier, please visit our parent site Wye Adventures to book online but if you are new to canoeing or unsure about any aspects of your trip just call us on 01600 890027.

We have a large fleet of modern stable canoes and some awesome kayaks.

How it works – Choosing the trip that’s right for you.

  • Firstly it’s a good idea to decide how far you and how long you want to paddle.
  • A half day canoe trip would take about 2.5 hours. A full day canoe trip would be approximately 4 to 6 or more hours depending on the length of the trip and pace you are paddling.
  • At a average pace you should be covering around 2.5 miles an hour, and most people find that around 10 to 14 miles in a day is plenty if you haven’t paddled before.
  • A longer day would be around 18 to 20 miles but some customers who want a real challenge can cover up to 30 miles in a day,
  • For details on distances and places to stop for multi-day trips see our river map
  • For advice on distances for your group please don’t hesitate to contact us.

You can choose any trip from a half day, full day or multi-day trip and paddle anything up to 100 miles of this stunning river, from Glasbury to Cheptow, including Hay, Hereford, Hoarwithy, Ross, Kerne Bridge at Goodrich, Symonds Yat, Monmouth, Redbrook or Brockweir near Tintern.

After deciding which trip you fancy we take a deposit to reserve your boats and that’s all until your Wye Valley adventure begins.

Due to the current Covid restrictions unfortunately we are unable to offer shuttle services so on the day of your trip, you meet us at our the start point of trip where you can leave your car. We provide you with dry barrels and bags for your belongings, give you your canoe, kayak or paddleboard and a safety briefing and you are off, then at the end of your trip it’s a local taxi service or maybe you’ve been able to work your own shuttle service within the group, a popular option is to leave one car in the Paddocks Hotel, Symonds Yat West car park, then make your way to the start point so there is a car to use as a shuttle when you finish?

Meeting Times – Meeting times are given for the relevant trip you are doing and we generally aim to get you on the river about an 1hr to 1.5hrs after this time. This allows time to do paperwork, get you kitted out with all equipment, give you a full paddle and safety talk and then take you up to the launch to launch you on the river. We ask that you aim to be at the meeting point at least 15 minutes before to make sure that you are coming to the right place, and do not arrive late.

Please note that arriving late for your allocated meeting time can affect the schedule of trips and mean delays for others booked in for the rest of the day, so please arrive on time and take note of directions on how to find us.

If you arrive too late for your appointed meeting time – you may miss out on going altogether or not be able to go on the trip originally outlined for you as transport has to leave at particular times in order to be back for allocated trips later in the day.
