Wye Invader Still in Symonds Yat

The Wye Invader a 230 ton, 38m long dutch barge is still sat above the rapids here at Symonds Yat today on its journey back down the Wye. The barge built in the 1930′s was originally taken up the Wye in 1989 with the idea of being a floating restaurant at Hereford, unfortunately planning permission was never granted for the floating restaurant and it has more recently been on the […]

Sweet Nutrition

I guess most of us like cherries, well I love them and have ever since I can remember, but there is more reason to like them than you think.  For those of you out there that take exercise regularly or train for a particular sport such as canoeing, mountain biking or running then you may want to get some of the sweet cherry nectar. Anergogenic aid is a substance, food […]

Welsh Water Photoshoot

We had great fun yesterday acting as models for Welsh Water. They were looking for a canoe company that could model for them and provide local information and safety. We started the day on Bigsweir Bridge on the lower Wye and posed and pouted for the camera before moving onto Brockweir, the sun was shining and we didn’t see a drop of rain. Rae and Sian did a great job […]

Massive River Levels

With river levels at 4.25m this morning at Ross and it continuing to rain the flooding can only get worse. The Ferrie Inn car park has again been claimed by water and the road to Symonds Yat West has gone. If river levels continue to rise then more businesses will suffer as flood water makes it way further across land. When will it stop raining? Lets hope for a drier […]

A Beautiful Day Here in the Wye Valley

After some pretty harsh weather in recent days things are returning to normal here in the Wye Valley. River levels have dropped massively and we started the day here with a crisp frost and blue skies and it reminds us why it’s a great time of year to get out and about and explore the area. I came across this waterfall at Biblins while walking Max the dog this morning it […]

River Levels Still High

After all the heavy rain the River Wye is still in flood still, following a brief drop in the levels on Sunday it’s back up again today at 4.24m today at Ross and still rising, that’s 3m above normal levels and bringing all sorts of debris down stream. It’s broken its banks in numerous places and too high even for guided canoe trips.

High Winds and High River Levels

It’s a little breezy down here in the Wye Valley, with 70mph winds today we have had to batten down the hatches to ride out the storm. It was a little too late for tipi though I’m afraid and although we had hitched up the sides it couldn’t take the gusts and ended up on the floor. Let’s hope the winds and the river levels drop a bit for some […]
